The Power of Make Up and Contouring

Hello, guys! I’d like to apologize first for being on hiatus for almost 2 weeks! But I’m gonna post twice this week and hopefully for the next few weeks until 2013 says buh-bye. πŸ™‚

Anyways, I’d like to share my take on contouring. I’m not saying what I’m doing is the correct way, but I’m just gonna share some tips and what I do when I do this makeup technique.

First, let me explain what CONTOURING is. Β According to thefreedictionary.com, contouring or contour is the outline of a figure, body, or mass. In makeup, contouring helps you define your facial features making it look slimmer. It helps you create prominent cheek bones, a slim perfect nose and a beautiful jaw line. Hello, Kim Kardashian!

So here is my step-by-step guide on how to contour…

1STEP 1: Before putting your primer/foundation, START WITH A CLEAN FACE. It’s essential. You don’t want a sticky-icky feeling while putting on make-up.

STEP 2: Put on your favorite primer. But if you don’t have one, you can actually use BB Creams and skip your foundation. In here, I’m using Maybelinne’s Baby Skin Pore Eraser as a sub. Some makeup enthusiasts would say it’s a dupe for Smashbox Primer. Well, I can’t complain since it’s a huge money saver. I bought mine for only Php 200+ ($4) while most primers cost more than Php 350 up.

2STEP 3: Put on foundation. I’m using Cover Girl’s TruBlend Whipped Foundation in Classic Beige. If you are using a liquid or mouse foundation, make sure to set it afterwards. Unless you want a lusaw/tunaw effect. LOL. You can buy setting powders at local stores but I used a Maybelline Clear Smooth Cake Foundation for this. Another tip I learned from watching Michelle Phan videos is to use a foundation that doesn’t have SPF as they tend to reflect when you take pictures. You know the pictures where in you see that your whole face is shining compared to your body. Funny, right?

STEP 4: THIS IS OPTIONAL. But I usually put on lip balm (Maybelline Baby Lips Pink) because I have very dry lips. You know for that cherry chapstick effect when you kiss a girl. Hihi. Kidding!

3STEP 5: Concealing and Highlighting. I’m using ELF Tone Correcting Concealer in Apricot Beige in here. First you have to conceal all your dark spots of course before highlighting. I already identified all the areas that needs highlighting. You can put on concealer there and then highlight it later or just the highlighter, whichever you prefer.Β It would be easier if you are using a highlighting concealer.

The * sign near the eyes means they will be highlighted later with an eyeshadow.

4Here’s a closer look for you all. Yikes! LOL

5STEP 6: CONTOURING. Here we are finally! I’m using ELF All Over Color Stick in Toasted. It can be used as a bronzer or foundation and is very cheap so yey for me! Haha! Anyways, you may use any dark concealer or bronzer or foundation for this technique. See picture below for the areas that need contouring.

7STEP 7: Set your concealer. I used Maybelline Clear Smooth All in One Shine Free Cake Powder for setting my concealer. After such, you may add in your highlighter. Usually it’s just at the the bridge of the nose, cheekbones, chin and forehead.

8STEP 8: Using a stipple brush or sponge, blend in the contoured areas of your face to make the outlines look natural.

9Here I’m showing you that I used ELF Stipple Brush for blending. I recommend using a stipple brush for that air brush finish πŸ˜‰

STEP 9: Set your face with a powder. You may use a setting powder or any available face powder you have. Again, we want your makeup to stay on for as long as possible.

10STEP 10: Do your eyes. In here I’m using NICHIDO Eye Pencil in Brown for my eyebrows and lining my waterline. Another tip, it is important to have an angled brush, as shown above, because it will make lining easier. Trust me on this!

And for my eyeliner, I used SANSAN Waterproof Eyeliner in Black which is an amazing product! Thank you so much Tinayinbothpoles for recommending this! For only Php 85, kabog the other products! Promise!

I’d like to apologize for forgetting to highlight my brow bone, inner corner of my eyes and above the curve of my eyebrows. Please do not forget this when you do your makeup. πŸ™‚

11STEP 11: For that kilig look, put on your favorite blush. Mine’s L’Oreal HIP Bleandable Blusing Creme in Thrilled. I prefer darker blushes. I feel like a clown every time I put on something pink. But hey, that’s just me. LOL.

12STEP 12: Lippies! If you personally know me, you know I don’t really like putting on makeup everyday except for lipstick. Hey, I love makeup (I actually buy and collect, sometimes I never use them) but it’s just my tamad self. Haha!

I wanted a nude look so I used NICHIDO Lip Pencil in Rosette and BYS Lip Gloss & Lipstick Duo in Dusty Rose.

TEN TENENEN…

So, what do you think guys? Did I nail it? I know I’m not perfect but I tried, really. I hope this post helped you or entertained you or whatever. Again, I’m no expert so hit the comment section below for anything make-up related questions you want to ask and I’ll try answering them.

Also, here’s a video tutorialΒ on contouring that I really loved and I think is the most helpful out of all the hundred tutorials I found in Youtube.
